My uncle, Captain Eliz Hugo, whose mother is from Pulilan, is a helicopter pilot. Growing up, my cousins and I would look up to him for being one. He is very generous, loving, and fun to be with. He would always have great stories about his (mis)adventures being a pilot. Some are scary, especially when it involves life and death situations with a split-second decision to avert a disaster.

He explained a few ways to become a pilot here in the Philippines. The easiest way is to enroll in a commercial flying or pilot school. Other options would be to enlist and serve at the Philippine Air Force (PAF) or enter the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

I once dreamed of being one, but reality bites when I did not pass the PMA entrance exam and accepted that my family couldn’t afford to send me to a pilot school because it is just too expensive. Some things are not meant to be, eka nga. But I am happy where I am right now.
